While visiting Brisbane on today’s hot boxing day my shopping buddy and I decided to grab a quick bite between department stores and avoiding the heat. Harajuku Gyoza fitted the bill with great food, cheery staff and the one essential ingredient, air conditioning!
First impressions of here is quite amazing… The roof was covered with action figures and the bar has wonderful Japanese icons to remind you where you are.
Camp aside it was time to get stuck into some tasty treats…
Naturally gyoza were on our mind given the name and all… First cab off the rank, pan fried chicken gyoza.
These dumplings were very tasty. Nice balanced flavours and went will with a mix of soy, vinegar and chilli oil. They are available in chicken, duck, pork, prawn or vegetable. My companion had the duck and they were amazing!
For a snack the serving of gyoza is perfect however if you are looking for a meal I suggest adding an additional dish.
I went for the Agedashi tofu and my mate went for the chicken karaage.
The chicken karaage was pretty dry and a little over cooked. The breading was nice but more on the charred side.
The Agedashi tofu was great with a delicious broth with mushrooms and the coating on the tofu just firm and a little stretchy. I liked it.
Service here was fast, super friendly and all you would expect of a Japanese chain with Harajuku branding. This isn’t the most amazing Japanese but it’s great for a snack when you are out and about shopping.
